When do I need a tooth extraction?

A tooth may require extraction for several reasons, including:

  • Your wisdom teeth are impacted or partially erupted
  • You’ve experienced trauma, resulting in cracked or broken teeth
  • One of your teeth is decayed beyond repair
  • You have a root fracture
  • Your primary teeth have not fallen out, preventing your permanent teeth from coming in properly

What type of anesthesia is used in dental oral surgery?

Dr. Cetel provides three types of anesthesia and will decide which form is most suitable for your needs and procedure.

Local anesthesia

Commonly referred to as novocaine, local anesthesia is one of the most common forms of anesthesia used in dental surgery. It numbs pain by blocking the nerves that sense and transmit pain. Local anesthesia can come in the form of a topical application or an injection.

Nitrous oxide

Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a safe and effective option when undergoing oral surgery. The purpose of nitrous oxide is to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your procedure but not put you sleep.
